Drivers should always be cautious whenever they drive especially on the highway or in heavy traffic. The cars should also be in good condition and there are no damages that can harm the driver and the passengers. Novice drivers or first time drivers are very careful and sometimes nervous on what to do especially when they haven’t experience some troubles happening in their car. Most of the novice drivers will most likely panic whenever they don’t know what to do if ever something unusual happens to their car. The worst thing that could happen to them is to lose their brakes or to stop in the middle of the traffic.
Car companies had made their car very sensitive and user friendly so that novice and as well as professional drivers would be safe in anything that will happen to the car and the passengers. Thus, many cars now have integrated some advanced technology like the GPS and the so called ABS or the Anti Lock Braking System. The ABS is a system on most vehicles wherein it prevents the wheels from locking while you are braking. Why do we need this you ask? This keeps your vehicle safe and secure which has two advantages that will surely give a big help to the drivers. First thing that the ABS can do is to maintain steering control under heavy braking and in most situations, it shortems the braking distance.
So what is really the big difference between the vehicles with ABS and the normal vehicles? If you have a vehicle that has no Anti Locking Brake System, you can manually pump the brakes to prevent the wheels from locking up. So in vehicles with anti locking brake system, the driver’s foot needs to remain firmly on the brake pedal which will allow the system to automatically pump the brakes. This is very helpful especially the inexperienced driver so that the brakes won’t lock up whenever they are braking.
So how does this anti locking braking system work? Basically, the ABS is composed of a central electronic unit which has four speed sensors. These sensors are assigned for each wheel. The ABS also has a two or more hydraulic valves on the brake circuit. These elements are very important to make the ABS more effective and efficient. What it will basically do is to that when it sensed any number of wheels that are rotating slower than the others, which will bring it to lock, it will move the valves to decrease the pressure on the braking circuit. With this process, the vehicle will in turn reduce the braking force on that wheel and it will cause a pulsing feeling through the brake pedal.
